Les Masques de Nyarlathotep
A veritable line of investigators sets out in pursuit of cultists who want to destroy the world.
- Investigators are looking for a way to obtain information on the Black Pharaoh. Part of the group is busy finding an offering to appease Bast so that they can study his scrolls. In doing so, they obtain the address of a woman capable of making Citres, instruments traditionally offered to the Egyptian goddess. At her home, the group discovers that she and her son were attacked and seriously injured after trying to rescue Loret. According to the son's confused verbiage, it was Loret himself who came for revenge. In the house, the craftswoman makes the group understand that she wants them to take an antique pink slab.
- After analysis and verification on the spot, the old pink slab seems to come from the red pyramid, considered by some to have been built to protect Egypt from a possible return of the Black Pharaoh. It is only a fragment of a much larger slab, torn off at the top of the pyramid.
- The group suspects one of its allies to be the leader of the Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh. The suspicions mainly concern Dr. Kafour and Omar Shakti. While part of the group unexpectedly goes to the latter's house, Shakti is in conversation with Tewfik and Loyd-Magham. All the evidence now points to Shakti as the mastermind behind the cult's operations.
- The Clive expedition seems impenetrable: the group is chased out manu militari by the steward, Martin Winfield. To sow confusion over the mummy's disappearance, the investigators send a letter to Martin Winfield naming Shakti as the perpetrator of the theft.
